The State Youth Orchestra of Armenia launched its new 2014-2015 concert season and the 2nd Aram Khachaturian International Festival presenting an unprecedented and unique concert!

On September 16 the State Youth Orchestra of Armenia launched its new 2014-2015 concert season and the 2nd Aram Khachaturian International Festival presenting an unprecedented and unique concert!

For the first time in its history the State Youth Orchestra of Armenia appeared jointly on the same stage with the world-renowned musician - DJ Switch (United Kingdom) and Bagrat Terteryan, the head of the Armenian Association of Beatbox. The audience was presented theConcerto for Turntables and Orchestra by Gabriel Prokofiev and the Concerto for Beatboxer, Turntablist and Orchestra by Miles Hancock (world premiere).

The Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the State Youth Orchestra of Armenia noted that such a concert format was introduced earlier only in London. “The practice has shown that we have to be in a constant search for something new. We live in the 21st century, when the experiments are widely applicable, so we just need to find a right way of innovations’ presentation”, mentioned Sergey Smbatyan. He also paid a special attention to the importance of the promotion and presentation of the Armenian culture to the entire world. Even the foreign musicians who will perform within the framework of the Aram Khachaturian International Festival will indirectly help us to promote the preservation of our cultural heritage.

The Grand Opening Ceremony of the Festival was dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the Yerevan State University and was being implemented under the patronage of the Embassy of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Armenia and with the support of the British Council.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Armenia Mrs. Catherine Jane Leach stressed the importance of the Aram Khachaturian International Festival, describing the opening concert of the festival as a unique fusion of modern and classical music. According to Catherine Leach, the cultural life of Armenia is surprisingly rich. Ms. Ambassador noted that in Armenia she attend concerts of classical music often enough: both her daughter are studying to play the string instruments and such concerts can serve as a good example of what success can be achieved by hard work.  

DJ Switch was impressed by Armenia and the Armenian audience. He shared his experience of previous cooperation with orchestras. The DJ highly appreciated the results of the joint work and expressed hope for further cooperation with the State Youth Orchestra of Armenia.

Once again we inform you that thanks to the support of VivaCell-MTS, the General Partner of the Youth Orchestra now on the connoisseurs of classic music will be given a unique opportunity to follow all the concerts of the collective, particularly the whole season of the 2nd Aram Khachaturian International Festival, regardless of their location. Starting from September 16 the concerts will be online broadcasted on the official website of the Festival www.akhif.am and the official website of the Orchestra www.syoa.am .

The Armenian audience will be presented numerous surprises within the framework of the 2nd Aram Khachaturian International Festival. Yerevan will host world renowned musicians such as Zakhar Bron, Vag Papian, Anna Tifu, Alexander Romanovsky, Ning Feng, Maria Domashenko, to name a few.

The Aram Khachaturian International Festival is being implemented with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia.
